Very nice Empire style mahogany desk with flap dating from circa 1850. It is decorated with beautiful gilded bronzes and topped with a black marble. The purity of its lines makes it a very elegant piece of furniture that will easily suit your interior whatever your style. The flap opens onto a "theatre" framed by columns encircled by gilt bronze. It houses a drawer hidden in the band and 5 small drawers. The green gilded leather is in good condition but can be changed if you wish. In the lower part, two doors open on two large drawers.

Style Empire:
The First French Empire is a period marked by the reign of Napoleon Bonaparte from 1804 to 1815.
The craftsmen were invited to create majestic works to symbolise imperial power. For this purpose, they took up Egyptian or Greco-Roman motifs and adapted them to furniture.
To these are added imperial and warlike motifs. These include the crown, the imperial eagle, the bee, the star, the spear...
Mahogany, walnut, maple, elm and ash are representative woods of this style.
