A "Bonheur-du-jour" (happiness of the day) is a piece of furniture intended for writing and especially for ladies. This type of furniture was first created in the 18th century. It can have different functions depending on the place where it is placed: desk and secretary in the living room, dressing table in the bedroom or display cabinet. It owes its name to the fact that the ladies of the time could hide letters and small objects (often love letters) in it. This is a small and light piece of furniture, easy to move. It is generally composed of a table with high and thin legs whose top supports either a small rectangular cupboard closed by leaves or drawers. The upper part is called the "steps", it is it which constitutes all the soul of the "bonheur-du-jour". The one I present to you is in the Louis Philippe style, it is a vintage French copy dating from the 50s. A very affordable price for a very attractive piece of furniture.

More Information
Style: Louis Philippe
Louis-Philippe was the last king to reign over France from 1830 to 1848. Much less traditionalist than the kings of the earlier absolute monarchy, his reign is marked by profound social, economic and political changes within the kingdom.
Dark woods such as mahogany, rosewood and walnut are in fashion. The style is a reinterpretation of the furniture of earlier periods with a concern for convenience and mobility that’s why the chairs and armchairs are equipped with casters.
