Series of 11 "talking" plates from the manafacture of Creil and Montereau dating from the 19th century on the satirical theme of the "joys of marriage".You can display them in a window, on a piece of furniture, make a wall decoration, or even use them as dessert plates (if you don't put them in the dishwasher!) But what is a "talking" plate? Let me give you some information that will amaze your guests: A real trend in the 19th century, the fine faience plates known as "talking plates" include a drawing accompanied by a legend. The subjects are extremely varied: military life, hunting, monuments or the customs of French urban and rural society. Fables, rebus, proverbs and popular songs are also represented or inscribed on these often satirical or caricatured pieces. In France, the factories of Sarreguemines, Utzschneider & Cie, Creil and Montereau, Gien, Choisy-le-Roi, Lunéville, Longwy, Clairefontaine and Vieillard distinguished themselves in this type of production. All these faience manufacturers produced series of story plates (generally twelve in number) based on a theme and were very popular with customers.
