Another one of our strange French names. The "lit de repos" (bed of rest) ou "lit de jour" (daybed) is a single bed generally with two heads. This kind of sofa was usually placed in the living room and was used to rest during the day. It is different from a meridienne because it really looks more like a bed. This one is in the Louis XVI style made of whitened and gilded wood with a delicate patina. It dates from the end of the 19th century and will bring a very elegant touch in an entrance, a living room or a bedroom.

Louis XVI, who reigned from 1774 to 1789, is remembered as the last absolute monarch. The French Revolution of 1789 overthrew the monarchy by divine right and Louis XVI was guillotined on January 21st 1793.
The Louis XVI style is classical, inspired by Antiquity, the shapes are geometric, the legs of the furniture are straight and light, often fluted. However, under the influence of Marie-Antoinette, the ornaments are enriched with musical and rural attributes, ribbon bows giving a delicate touch to the furniture.
