This delightful Louis XV style display case will showcase all your precious items. It is decorated with beautiful bronzes and decorations of "gallant scenes" in Martin varnish on three sides. It dates from the end of the 19th century. Martin varnish is a decorative lacquer technique invented in the 18th century by the Martin brothers. This French lacquer offered a cheaper alternative to lacquers imported from the Far East, mainly from China and Japan. More than an imitation, Martin varnish is distinguished by its quality, the use of colors, the variety of supports and a European style decoration of Louis XV and neoclassical. Martin varnish is world famous and is used to decorate luxury items, the interiors of castles such as Versailles, and the carriages of high society in the 18th century. It will become part of the everyday language used to designate all the beautiful French lacquerware.

More Information

Style: Louis XV

Louis XV, known as the "Beloved" reigned over the kingdom of France from 1715 to 1774, he was the only king of France to be born and die at the Palace of Versailles.

The Louis XV style is characterized by its elegance and lightness. It is recognizable by the grace of the curved legs of the furniture with "pied de biche"(deer foot).

The wood is natural, gilded or painted. The "rococo" style ornamentation is inspired by nature and exoticism.
