This reproduction of the painting "The Girl with the Scarf" by the painter Jean-Baptiste Greuze is taken from a Christmas edition of the French magazine "l'llustration", a weekly magazine published from 1843 to 1944. It is framed in a beautiful late 19th century oval frame.
This French illustrated newspaper became the first magazine in the world in 1906 and was distributed in over 150 countries. This mythical magazine, in the history of the French and international press, told the world every week for more than a century, with the help of the greatest names of the time.
From 1886 onwards, a Christmas edition was prepared throughout the year, mobilizing more than two hundred workers just for the interior collage!
Current events are excluded from this edition, which contains only engravings, tales, novels, short stories or poems, chosen among the best of the time. The high quality of the illustrations explains the passion of the collectors for these editions, which are still very sought after today.
