Exquisite ancient reproduction of the painting "Marie-Antoinette à la rose" by the French painter Elisabeth Vigée Le Brun in 1783, which is exhibited at the Palace of Versailles.
It is taken from a Christmas edition of the French magazine "l'llustration", a weekly magazine published from 1843 to 1944.
This French illustrated newspaper became the first magazine in the world in 1906 and was distributed in over 150 countries. This mythical magazine, in the history of the French and
international press, told the world every week for more than a century, with the help of the greatest names of the time.
From 1886 onwards, a Christmas edition was prepared throughout the year, mobilising more than two hundred women workers just to do the interior collage!
Current affairs were excluded from this edition, which contained only engravings, tales, novels, short stories or poems, chosen from among the best of the period. The high quality illustrations
explain the enthusiasm of collectors for these editions, which are still highly sought after today.
