This very elegant petroleum lamp consists of a bronze base, a green onyx column and a luminous green globe ornamented with gold designs. It is not only decorative as it has been electrified.
Invented by the Polish pharmacist Ignacy Lukasiewicz in 1853, the petroleum lamp is a lighting system consisting of a tank containing petroleum that rises to the top of the burner thanks to a wick. The whole is topped by a glass chimney.
