This gorgeous indoor planter signed "ASCH Herbinière & Siroteau" dates from the end of the 19th century. It is a "bleu de Tours" porcelain planter. This type of porcelain was invented between 1889 and 1890 by Gustave ASCH and is characterized by a dark blue enamel close to the famous "bleu de Sèvres".
It is richly decorated with three handles with faun heads, the armorial bearings of the duchess Claude of Brittany and its emblem, a "navré" swan pierced by an arrow and the armorial bearings of her husband the king François Ier a crowned salamander.
