As usual in France, we have a very precise name for each piece of furniture, to define its shape and style.
This pretty chest of drawers in marquetry is a "commode sauteuse à ressaut" (jumping chest of drawers with overhang).
A "commode sauteuse" is a smaller chest of drawers with two rows of drawers raised on half-high legs, which are generally curved. It differs from the classic three-drawer chest on low legs.
This elegant piece of furniture gives the impression that it has legs enabling it to jump like a frog.
The first jumping chests appeared in the Regency style with the cabinetmaker Charles Cressent. They became widespread during the Louis XV period.
The "commode à ressaut" is a chest of drawers where the alignment of the front presents a variation, a break. This type of chest of drawers appeared during the Transition style.
Yes, we like to keep things simple when it comes to describing furniture....😂

More Information
Style:Transition
The Transition style corresponds to the first part of the Louis XVI style in French furniture, it makes the transition (hence its name) between the novelty and originality of the Louis XV style, and the return to the classical inspiration of the Louis XVI style. In the second half of the reign of Louis XV and at the very beginning of the reign of Louis XVI this style is characterized by the abandonment of curves and movement of the Rocaille in favor of straight lines, purified and symmetry.
