This delightful little "trumeau" depicts a bucolic scene at the foot of a waterfall. It is very narrow and would be perfect between two windows or two doors. A trumeau is a decorative element made of a framed mirror topped by an inlaid, carved or painted panel. Trumeaux were generally found above a fireplace, a console or between two windows.

More Information
Style: Directoire
The Directoire style was a style of furnishing and decoration in fashion from 1789 to 1803. Marking the transition between the Louis XVI and Empire styles, it was characterised by sober design and simple shapes. The Directoire style continued the classical tradition of the Louis XVI style, but with a more austere treatment, heralding the Empire style without its heaviness. Simple forms, discreet curves and straight lines without rigidity are combined in great elegance.
