Let me tell you a little about what we call "cabriolets" armchairs in French.
During the reign of Louis XV, armchairs were the most popular pieces of furniture. It was at this time, in the 18th century, that the fauteuil cabriolet appeared. The cabriolet armchair is a small, lightweight lounge or boudoir chair. It takes its name from the horse-drawn carriages of the 18th century, renowned for their mobility. In fact, this very practical armchair moves easily according to the user's needs.
In the Louis XVI style, the cabriolet armchair is either natural wood or painted in light colours such as white or grey. The gold finish is reserved for exceptional furniture, palaces and private mansions.
The pair of cabriolets I'm offering today are in the Louis XVI style, with a medallion-shaped back. They have been reupholstered in a delicate fabric with an off-white background adorned with blue eggs in the Fabergé spirit, which accentuates their refinement while giving them a modern touch.

Louis XVI, who reigned from 1774 to 1789, is remembered as the last absolute monarch. The French Revolution of 1789 overthrew the monarchy by divine right and Louis XVI was guillotined on January 21st 1793.
The Louis XVI style is classical, inspired by Antiquity, the shapes are geometric, the legs of the furniture are straight and light, often fluted. However, under the influence of Marie-Antoinette, the ornaments are enriched with musical and rural attributes, ribbon bows giving a delicate touch to the furniture.
